Day 5: Back on track

Life has been good the past few days... on Tuesday I went out with my homie since five years old aka cousin Tomo...we walked around Hollywood and ended up at the club "Day After," which was cool. We met up with my boy from USC "D. Hale" aka "Vos" and he hooked us up with entry. To say we were lifted/faded/tipsy would be an understatement.. it was off the hook. Met some cool young ladies and whatever and just kicked it. Wednesday I wanted to get to the sino but I fell asleep almost right after I got home from work. Yesterday (Thurs) was a good day.. got to work on time (tough for me), played basketball at lunch and was killing, went to my softball game after work and we won 22-7, went to the batting cage to hit 80 MPH, then hung out at home until about 10, when I left for HP. I actually took a shower and changed clothes in case I would be there all night, which I was.

Got to HP and was waitlisted for 200 and 100 NL. Sat down at 100 NL and played one hand for $15 pre flop and folded, then moved to 200 NL where I was familiar with about two of the players from previous play. My very first hand I got KK in late position and raised to $40 and got three callers. Of course the ace hit the flop and I folded to a $30 bet, two of the callers had the ace so I actually had as many cards to catch my set as they had outs. I went down to about 120 or so before doubling up and getting up a bit. The first hand I remember hitting was 66 on a flop of K86 and the caller had K8. There was actually a four-card flush on the board but neither of us had the club.. just sucked because it killed our action. I was playing the table pretty well and made a play I'm pretty proud of. I raised to $25 with A-4 suited on the button. Five people called. Flop came 998. I bet $50 on the button after everyone checked. A player that I've played with before check-raised me but I could tell at first he was thinking about just if he should call or not. So he then put his $100 bill in as if to call and said "one hundred." Weakness!! So everyone folds and I count out $150 and say "another $100" and he auto-folded. I had seen him make a similar play right after I sat down and it was almost the same type of play. Pot was huge though and this got me up around $800 or something.

I lost a huge pot with the following hand: I have 66. Loose player raises to $20, five people calls. Flop comes 776. Loose player bets 20, I call as does everyone else. Two diamonds and straight draw. Turn is J and loose player bets $150 (I now know he has the 7). I raise him all in and he gets all pissed and thinks bout it ($200 more) and says "I know you got me beat but I have too much money in the pot," and calls.. shows A-7 and the river is an ace. I lost roughly $550 in profit and a pot over $800.

I ended up having to rebuy and worked my way back up to $916 ($500 of mine) before the table broke. The key hand for me was right after I rebought for $300, and was at about $250, I called a $25 raise on the button with 7-8 offsuit. I thought to myself "damn I'd like to flop the nuts" because the bettor makes huge overbets. Lucky for me the flop comes 6-9-10 with two spades. The bettor, who is first to act, bets $50. The other player calls and I moved in for my remaining $125. The bettor insta-calls (I figured he would put me on the spade draw) and the other player goes in for his remaining $125 as well. Bettor showed K-10 diamonds and other player showed pockets 99 for a set. The board doesn't pair and I triple up.

After the table broke, I sat around for a while and got on another $200 NL table at about 6:30. I caught an amazing run of cards hiting quad QQQQ, a set of 999 and the nut flush Ah7h against a J-10 flush (this was my first double up). I sat next to an ethiopian guy named "Tes" (for short) and he really seemed to want to help me and tell me about players and the way people play. I really appreciated his help as he has been playing poker for over 10 years and seems to be a successful player. When it was time for me to go and I said "well, I'll play one more round," he told me to just go now because too many people want to gamble during their "last circuit." So I left after only about 1.5 hours on the table and made $590.

This was a much needed profitable session as I am broke and have bills!! Spent way too much money on drinks during the halloween weekend.

This was also nice to have a strong day to start the month, maybe November will bring some fetti.
